LASTLY

LASTLY

When the last dry leaf
of the last tree fall
and the last willow
don’t have anyone to cry for
Who will care about autumn?

When the last bird
fly for the last time
who will be the last
in remembering a hummingbird?

When we will look at the last sunset
Who will remember Sara Teasdale?
Who will declaim SOFT RAINS WILL COME
And who in this infinite universe
would like to remind us
even a little
even if it is for the last time?
